Shingrix is a vaccine designed to provide protection against the varicella-zoster virus, which causes shingles (herpes zoster). Shingles is a painful rash that typically occurs in older adults who have had chickenpox. Shingrix is a recombinant subunit vaccine, meaning it contains pieces of the virus rather than live virus particles, and it stimulates the immune system to produce a strong and lasting response against the varicella-zoster virus.
Suitable for
Shingrix is recommended for adults aged 50 and older as a preventive measure against shingles. It is also suitable for individuals who have previously received the Zostavax vaccine, an earlier shingles vaccine, and for those who have had a previous episode of shingles.
Not applicable / Side Effect
Common side effects of Shingrix may include soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, as well as mild fever, muscle aches, and fatigue. These side effects are generally short-lived. Serious side effects are rare.
